Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, learners should be able to:

  • find listings for different jobs that they would be qualified for after completing an MSLIS,
  • understand what kinds of jobs are available for MSLIS graduates,
  • understand the pay range of these jobs,
  • and understand the amount of jobs that could realistically be available.

Agenda

Focus on the Average Salary within Job Industry Type chart and the Top Job Industries chart!

Focus on slides 5-8, 10-18, 21-22! Additionally, these slides should be available for further browsing outside of the classroom.

Focus on Sample Job Titles listed under each pathway!

  • Where do you look for LIS jobs?
    • Look at different current job postings in the LIS field, focusing on requirements and salary.
  • What are the common elements?
    • Discuss reoccurring elements from job postings.
    • Discuss different ways you could meet the requirements to get the job.
    • Exit Slip:
      • Two things you learned today.
      • Are any of these careers interesting to you? Which one(s)?
